Winter

SnowRemember to protect your Basenjis from the harshness of the winter.  Limit time outside and provide a nice warm spot inside for them.  Coats and booties are a must for long walks or if they are outside longer that a quick potty break.  The chemicals used to remove ice and snow is especially harmful not only to their feet, but they could lick and ingest it.  Remember to wipe their feet when returning home from walks

Basenjis and Water

While it can generally be said that Basenjis and water don’t mix, every so often one comes along that is not bothered by it.  Most can easily get used to the occasional bath or learn to swim as a puppy.  What they usually dislike is rain…or the wet grass from rain, or the early morning dew on their precious paws…it’s like poison to them! They will do absolutely anything to avoid going out in the rain to go potty.
