About Karnak

My mission is to educate the public in all things Basenji. I have been involved with Basenjis since 1992.  The search for a Basenji began in 1985 after discovering this fascinating breed of dog.  After eight years of research and carefully waiting until the time was right to bring a dog into the family, the first puppy girl made her mark on our hearts.  We named her  Karnak Alexandria after the historically significant area of which Basenjis originated and were found on the tombs of the pharaohs. I immediately began participating in American Kennel Club and other organized dog events.  Including our first puppy, Karnak Alexandria, I have breeder-owner handled over 25 dogs to their AKC conformation title and co-bred others that went on to receive their AKC title with their own families.

Much of my life has been devoted to the well-being and preservation of the breed.

  1. I would like to adopt or acquire a basenji. I am an outdoorsy person yet suffer from pretty bad allergies which have led me to the breed- I love their catlike demeanor and have a large yard which to exercise him . I’d like a male and would prefer a rescue but more importantly I’d like to be sure he is all basenji. Do you breed them? Or know of someone else local whom does? I see you are located in Lancaster, I am in shrewsbury pa. Please respond as soon as you can, thanks!

  2. We lost our beloved 17-yr old Basenji “Mingo” this past September and would very much like to talk to you regarding adopting a puppy. Our vet has a client who adopted a puppy from you and he provided us your contact info. Please let us know when would be a good time to speak with you. Realizing that this is a very busy time of the year if after the new year is better for you, that would be fine with us. Looking forward to hearing from you.

  4. Hello there. My husband and I are interested in adopting a Basenji puppy. We have been researching all the breeds and the Basenji seems perfect for us and our soon-to-be six year old son Henry. We are looking to adopt sometime in March or April. I look forward to hearing from you.

  8. Hello, my fiance and I are looking to acquire more information on your Basenjis. Are Basenjis normally good for people with allergies? We our outdoor people who also have a big yard for a dog to play and run around. Thank you.

      Typically Basenjis are good for people with allergies. The best way to find out is to visit some and see how you do.     My Husband and I are looking to adopt 1 or 2 Basenjis. We are eager to add them to our family and have done quite a bit of research and found that these are the dogs for us! How do we get the process going and are we able to adopt older Basenjis (3-5yrs old)? If not, puppies are fine.

  13. My sister used to raise basenji’s many years ago. she had to sell her 2 basenji’s when her husband died of cancer and she had to go to work to raise her two children. Now her children are raised and she is now retired and wants another basenji. I know this is the time litters are born, and am wondering if you have any red females available. Thanks

  14. My sister used to raise basenji’s many years ago. Due to a misfortune in her family, she had to sell her basenji’s to raise her two children. Now that her children are raised and she is retired, she is interested in a basenji companion. I am hoping o acquire a red female for her, if you have any available at this time which I know litters are born at this time, please let me know. I am from the Youngstown, Oh area and will travel at a moments notice. Thank You.

  15. I would love to have a Basenji puppy. I am not really an expert on this breed. I had a pom for 15 good years and have never purchase a dog on line. You are the closet to where i live and if you where to let me purchase a puppy he or she wouldn’t have to travel on a plane in a crate.

Hello.I am interested in an adult Basenji.I have had Border Collies all my 51 years of life.I recently lost my Border of 20 years of age .My friend has a Basenji that I get to dog sit.I love the breed.I live in a rural area and I am active.I have a seizure alert service dog.Rudy is an Am Staff.I would be interested in a spayed or neutered adult sibling for Rudy.Thank you for your time.

  24. Where are you located and do you have any puppies/young dogs available. We lost our Jack Russell Petal after almost 17 years and now have a void in our home that is just unexplainable.
