While Basenjis do not have a sustained bark like your typical domesticated canine, they are capable of making sounds such as howling, screaming, growling, yelping and their famous happy sound, the yodel. Some can even be trained to make sounds on command, while there have been others that seem to say human words. You might get one that is very quiet to for years and then all of a sudden one day they belt out the biggest yodel that appears to have come from deep down and pushed out by the greatest of efforts. Each one is individual.
Puppies need to play with one another in addition to socializing with older dogs and humans. This is how they learn to play nice. They can get, what appears to eye as being kind of rough, but you can be sure that they will let each other know if it does get too rough. This is how they learn their limitations.
Basenji girls typically come into season once a year, unlike most dogs that come into season twice a year. The time for puppies is quickly arriving. They are usually born late Fall, early winter.
